Commercial lock installation fits Dallas business doors with locks built for them.
Commercial lock installation means choosing a lock by its grade, its function and its handle, then fitting it correctly to the door and frame.
- GradeHow much use and abuse the lock is built for.
- FunctionHow and when the door locks.
- LeverA handle anyone can operate.
A residential lockset on a busy office or retail door wears out fast, and the wrong function causes daily problems: a storeroom that's left unlocked, or an office that locks people out every time the door shuts.
Fast Local Locksmith installs commercial locks across Dallas for business owners, office managers and property managers. We go door by door, match the grade and function to how the door is used, and install the lock to fit the door and frame properly so it latches and lasts.
The right lock. Fitted right.
Call 469-300-5525Dallas commercial doors use three main types of lock.
The door, its traffic and its frame decide which one fits.
Here is what most business owners don't realize about commercial locks. Grade matters. Under the ANSI/BHMA standards, Grade 1 is the heaviest duty commercial lock, tested for the most cycles and the most force, and Grade 2 suits lighter commercial use. A lock bought off a hardware store shelf is often Grade 3, made for homes.
We install at commercial addresses across Dallas, from Uptown office suites and Las Colinas buildings to retail centers in Garland, Mesquite and Grand Prairie, without a minimum commercial contract requirement. We ask about the doors before we arrive so the right hardware comes with the technician.
Across DFW, most interior office and suite doors take cylindrical lever locks, which install through a round bore in the door. High-traffic entries, older buildings and doors that need extra strength often use mortise locks, which sit in a deep pocket cut into the door edge. Exterior and back doors usually add a commercial deadbolt for a second, stronger lock point.
- Cylindrical lever locks.
Install through a round bore. Common on office and suite doors.
- Mortise locks.
A full lock case set into the door edge. Strong and long lasting.
- Commercial deadbolts.
A separate bolt above the lever for a second, stronger lock point.
What it actually looks like when we install locks for a business.
Every lock installation starts with two questions: what each door is for, and what the door is prepared for.

What makes the difference between locks that work for years and locks that bind, stick or lock people out comes down to the right function for each door, and fitting each lock to the door's existing prep.
Function first
An office build-out might need an entry lock on the suite door, office locks on private offices, storeroom locks on the supply and server rooms, and passage sets on doors that never lock. The technician walks the space with you and lists each door and its function before anything is ordered.
Fitted to the door
Each door is checked for thickness, the size of the existing bore, the backset from the door edge, and the strike in the frame. Most commercial cylindrical locks use a 2-1/8 inch cross bore with a 2-3/4 inch backset. Matching the existing prep avoids new holes in the door, and a properly fitted strike is what makes the lock latch every time.
Why authorization comes first
New locks decide who can get into your business, so authorized access verification, confirming the person requesting the work has legal authority over the property, is completed before any lock is installed. Property management credentials, a business name matching the lease, and a matching photo ID.
That combination, the right function for each door and each lock fitted to its door, is what keeps a lock installation working for years instead of becoming a list of service calls.
Call 469-300-5525Property managers can fit out a whole suite in one visit.
New tenant build-outs, keyed the way the building already works.
Property managers handle tenant build-outs, suite splits and lock upgrades across buildings. Each one means a list of doors, a mix of functions, and keys that need to fit the building's existing system.
Here is how we handle it. When you call, our dispatcher takes the address, the number of doors and what each one is used for. The new locks can be keyed to match your existing keys or to an existing master key system, so management keys keep working.
New locks can be keyed into your current master key system, so one more suite doesn't mean one more key ring.
If you manage multiple commercial properties across Dallas, strip centers, office suites or mixed-use spaces, we can note your account in our dispatch system. That speeds up verification on repeat calls.

Call and door list
Call 469-300-5525. Our dispatcher takes your address, how many doors and what each one is used for. For larger jobs, a technician walks the space with you and lists each door, its function, its thickness and its existing prep.
- Step 2
Hardware and keying plan
We recommend the lock type, grade and function for each door, and how it should be keyed: to your existing keys, to a master key system, or new. Authorized access verification happens at this stage, with your photo ID and a property management agreement, business license or commercial lease.
- Step 3
Installation
Each lock is installed to fit the door's existing prep where possible, with the strike adjusted in the frame so the latch catches cleanly. Work can be scheduled around your business hours so doors stay usable.
- Step 4
Lock, key and function test
Before the technician leaves, every lock is tested from both sides: the key works, the function behaves as agreed, the door opens from inside without a key, and the latch catches when the door closes. Keys are handed to the authorized contact.

New locks work best keyed as a system, with stronger cylinders where it counts.
Commercial lock installation questions we hear most.
What is the difference between Grade 1 and Grade 2 commercial locks?
Grades come from the ANSI/BHMA standards. Grade 1 locks are tested for the most cycles and the most force, and suit busy entries and heavy-use commercial doors. Grade 2 locks suit lighter commercial use such as private offices. Grade 3 is mostly residential and usually isn't a good fit for business doors.
Which lock function does each door need?
It depends on how the door is used. Storeroom locks stay locked from outside at all times. Office locks can be locked with a button or turn and opened with a key. Classroom locks are set from outside with a key. Passage sets never lock. We list each door with you and agree its function before ordering.
Do commercial doors need lever handles instead of knobs?
Accessible doors need hardware that can be operated with one hand without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist, which is why commercial doors normally use levers rather than knobs. Lever locks are the standard choice for business doors.
Can new locks work with my existing keys or master key system?
Often, yes. New locks can usually be keyed to match your existing keys or added to an existing master key system, as long as the keyway is compatible. If not, we explain the options, including rekeying the building to a new system.
How much does commercial lock installation cost?
Cost depends on the number of doors, the lock type and grade, the functions you need, whether the doors are already prepared for the lock, and how the locks are keyed. Mortise locks generally cost more than cylindrical lever locks. Call 469-300-5525 with your door list for a quote.
Do property managers need a contract to have locks installed at multiple properties?
No contract is required. Property managers can call as needed across multiple Dallas area locations. Dispatch can note your account information to speed up the authorization verification step on repeat calls. No retainer, no minimum call volume.
